Press primary benefits are to maximize the amount of water removed from the sheet while optimizing machine efficiency and product quality. The main parameters that impact the process of the press section are no open draws, high water removal rate, versatility, optimum uniformity.

As a result of know-how and long experience, ABK press sections are optimally designed to satisfy all these characteristics. Our well-thought press cluster geometry and robust frame ensure an excellent runnability even at high speed while the combined use of suction presses, high load presses and shoe press allows reaching a considerable level of dryness.

All these solutions are available either in the realization of new machines or in revamping projects of existing machines thanks to the expertise of ABK engineers in terms of project customization.

COMPACT TRANSFER SECTIONS

Bi-Nip or Tri-Nip geometries with conventional or combined pick-up roll avoid any open draws until the web reaches an adequate dryness level. The extremely compact configuration of combi-pick-up press geometries eliminates paper breaks between presses and minimizes at most the space requirements. This is particularly important in revamping projects where available space may be used to increase the number of dryers.

LNP PRESSES

Using press rolls with diameters up to 1800mm and a loading capacity up to 450kN/m, the Long Nip Presses give the highest level of dryness compared to the cost of the investment. The double LNP press configuration especially well suited for liner and fluting grades combines the high load capacity with all the advantages of a closed transfer section and low cost.

SHOE PRESSES

Our PLC (Press-Long Contact) is a spin-off from the Beloit ENP-C which has proven its efficiency for all paper and board grades in numerous mills all over the world. The nip length is of 200 or 250mm (7 to 10 times longer than any press roll), thus allowing a longer residence time of the sheet under the press action (called NRT - Nip Residence Time) with a very high nip pressure (over 1000 kN/m) but with tolerable specific pressures which provide:

  • Greater water removal
  • Reduced steam consumption
  • Reduced power consumption per ton of paper
  • Improved fibre bonding
  • Bulk vs. dryness optimization
  • Improved cross machine moisture profile.

 

Depending on the machine width and speed, we will propose the appropriate counter-roll design, either of standard type or variable crown type.
