Forming section

The Forming Section is the heart of the paper machine. This is the reason why ABK has always paid a particular attention to the design and the construction of each element of this section. Therefore, and thanks to continuous developments, ABK can offer high quality key products like our “PF” (Perfect Flow) series headboxes, our recoilless shakers, our “VACUALL” series top formers, together with conventional, but still of the latest design, single and multi-layer Fourdrinier tables.
ABK is also a company with almost 60 years of experience in the domain of manufacturing forming drums for the board and specialty paper industries. Our policy in this domain is expertise and flexibility to serve a clear customer-oriented strategy.
HEADBOXES of “PF” SERIES
In order to adapt to all kinds of paper and board grades available on the market, ABK has developed 4 different types of headboxes which can satisfy all production requirements :

The headboxes of type PF-0 have been specially designed for the forming drums (cylinder moulds) application. Different designs are available depending on the final application and type of drums (either of the classic type or with vacuum application). With our headbox feeding system (spider), you will obtain regular CD basis weight and humidity profiles at the end of the forming section otherwise unavailable with traditional Vats of immersion type. |

Our headbox of PF-I type (pressurized with rectifier rolls) is of classic conception, but remains unbeatable for paper machines that produce a wide range of grades where the flexibility is an essential requirement. Once again, each headbox will be adapted to the application needs in terms of air cushion concept (vacuum and/or pressure mode), CD profiling by top lip deformation or spider dilution distributor, rectifier roll diameters. They are suitable for machine speeds up to 600 m/min.
Last but not least, our state-of-the-art PF-II and PF-III hydraulic headboxes are direct spin-offs from the prestigious Beloit “CONCEPT IV”. It will ensure a top quality formation and fiber orientation for machine speeds over 600 m/min. The PF-II is suitable for Fourdrinier table while the PF-III is designed for twin wire/gap forming section. They can be fed either with a manifold of the log-conical or parabolic type or with a distributor of the radial type (Spider). In both cases, it is possible to equip the headbox with a dilution control system for optimal CD basis weight profiling with manual or automatic regulation. These headboxes also have an edge control function.
TOP FORMER of “VACUALL” SERIE

The still-growing requirements of papers with higher physical properties and printability find a valid answer in the use of a top former installed on top of the traditional Fourdrinier table. Our Vacuall-HD type is a spin-off from the high-dewatering capacity Belbond former from Beloit with a drainage capacity up to 4.5 l/min/mm. |

Depending on your process and final product characteristics, we will propose you the best position of the top former for your application. Indeed, depending on its location on the table, the Vacuall will improve more or less following aspects of the sheet and/or production:
- The formation of the sheet (look-through and macro-roughness)
- The fiber orientation
- The symmetry of the fiber and filler distribution and resulting 2-sidedness
- The high dispersion of fines
- The Fourdrinier drainage capability and/or productivity
- The sheet dryness at Fourdrinier outlet
FOURDRINIER TABLES
Fourdrinier table is a good technology for machine speeds up to 1200 m/min on low basis weight. The major standard-type products can be produced on this kind of paper machine such as fine papers, writing and printing, corrugated medium and liner, coating base paper, newsprint, as well as specialty products like decor paper, filter paper, reconstituted tobacco, bank notes, etc. for which ABK has a long experience. ABK is aware of all the latest Fourdrinier equipment development and depending of your product, we will propose you the most suitable table in terms of:
- Choice of materials: the more resistant to the water corrosion and to the diffused use of chemical agents in paper mill;
- Determination of the most suitable architecture (Cantilever type or “C” Frame) which results in significant reduction of maintenance time;
- Selection of suitable state-of-the-art options (ceramic cover for draining elements, electronic control for wire tension, carbon fiber rolls);
- Selection of the most suitable drainage elements: variable geometry foils (2 up or 5 up), high dewatering capacity foils with large outlets type duo-foils. High vacuum dewatering elements such as duo-vac, tri-vac, etc.
- Reduction of the energy requirement (less vacuum needs and powerless motors for identical machine performances;
- Injection of steam (steam box and forming shower) on the wire to improve the water-drainage of the paper.
RECOILESS SHAKES
The ABK Recoiless Shake is perfect to improve paper formation and cross direction (CD) strength of your production. Installed on a breast roll, it gives a back-and-force movement in CD to the whole roll. As a consequence fibers spread more uniformly on the wire, giving a better formation and a better CD strength. The Recoiless Shake designed by ABK generates an oscillation up to 25 mm in cross direction, and can reach a frequency up to 600 strokes/mn. No matter the weight to be shaken, the Recoiless Shake will not transmit disturbing vibrations to the machine frame nor to civil work, which would impair for instance the basis weight MD profile of the paper. With this new technology, a breast roll can be efficiently shaked at speeds up to 1000 m/min what was unthinkable with a conventional shaking device.
