The SCIPAG EMBALCO association and UBIFRANCE in close cooperation with the French economic mission of Ho Chi Minh City strongly mobilized themselves to organize with success a French-Vietnamese conference devoted to the paper industry in Vietnam and who brought together 10 French companies and more than 100 Vietnamese paper or board manufacturers.

ABK Group counted among the major participants in this conference and illustrated its position of privileged supplier of paper machines thanks to a presentation of some of its achievements and its most important installations throughout the world,

in particular in Asia where the technological level and the reliability of equipments are crucial factors for the conclusion of contracts and the referencing of companies. One example of such a concern for ABK Group is its shoe press installed and commissionned successfully (see news on shoe press) who actually allows for some records in terms of dryness, press felt or blanket changing times and maintenance.

The choice of Vietnam takes place in a strategy of growth of ABK group on the international markets, in particular in Asia where the group has already succeeded in developing very strong commercial relations with leaders in the production of paper and board, and can thus prevails itself of serious references (China, Indonesia).

This conference aimed at privileging business contacts and at opening a window on the economic situation and potentials in Vietnam. This country is characterized by an economy in full rise with a constant growth of the GDP and dynamic exports thanks to entries of foreign assets in particular (France is the 4th backer of Vietnam); it is an economy which resists turbulences thanks to the corrective measures taken by the vietnamese government in terms of public expenditure, inflation and of monetary policy; foreign debt is limited, political stability is real, the country offers a hard and rather inexpensive workforce and a social balance, and it pursues a strategy of industrial diversification; all these elements are assets to support the confidence of the investors.

The year 2009 should be characterized by a policy aiming at encouraging the production, exports, consumption and investments, and at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. The government envisages to bring guarantees for the financing of strategic equipment, and to start again infrastructure-targeted projects (transport, energy, residences). But the government does not lose sight of the challenges announced for 2009 and 2010 onwards, especially regarding demography, environment, trade deficit as well as modernization of the infrastructures and institutions.

An economic analysis of the paper industry in Vietnam shows a consumption in strong growth but an insufficient paper and board production and a decayed and not very powerful park of equipment. The objective posted and due by 2012 is to answer to 80% of the national request.

To meet this aim, ABK Group has committed itsef on finding the good positioning with its Vietnamese partners and on having a local partner so to ensure an effective presence on the spot which will allow the group to settle a good business relationship in the duration.

ABK Group joins all participants to express its deep and sincere thanks to the organizers for such a convivial and constructive conference.
